HMD has removed Nokia smartphones and the Nokia section from its global website. Therefore, Nokia will no longer be found on HMD’s international website. This indicates that the Nokia brand chapter has come to an end.

However, the Nokia category can still be accessed, but the site’s header will not be visible. The Nokia smartphone has now been marked as discontinued on the HMD international website. The Finnish company has been managing the smartphones of the Nokia brand since 2016; however, the discontinuation of the Nokia Android smartphone in India reflects a strategic shift made by HMD globally.

Why can you no longer buy Nokia Android phones in India?

HMD Global has recently announced that it is planning to launch smartphones under its brand name HMD. This move reflects a significant strategic shift by HMD Global. It took this step as a rebranding effort to establish a more powerful identity for the future of its brand without having to rely on The Legacy of Nokia. This move will help it gain more control over its brand’s future. However, declining market performance is also one of the reasons for the shutdown of the Nokia brand. The smartphones of the Nokia brand struggled to compete with other popular brands like Samsung, Realme, Vivo, Xiaomi, and many others in India. The Nokia brand also has limited innovation with a high price range compared to its competitors, and insufficiently proactive marketing contributed to the decline of popularity in the Indian market and other markets. However, the feature phones have always contributed as a consistent revenue resource. So HMD Global will continue to manufacture feature phones of the Nokia brand that will bring law and customer base in India and other developing countries. As future phones of affordability and durability in rural markets, especially.

HMD Global works towards focusing on bringing a long-lasting device that will have better software updates and security. The company plans on moving its brand to bring a fresh identity to the market while leveraging the existing specialization in smartphone production.

The Indian smartphone market is considered one of the highly competitive markets, with aggressive pricing and dominating consumer preferences. Therefore, the smartphones of the Nokia brand failed to offer hypnotic features in the competitive price market. Despite its software support and building quality, it still couldn’t compete in the market.

Hence the Nokia smartphones are now marked as “discontinued” on the official website of HMD Global. Popular Nokia smartphones such as the Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7 Plus, and other models are no longer in production.

In the early 20s, Nokia was once a household name in India and dominated the mobile phone market of India. However, the decline of the brand began after it failed to adopt Android early and the partnership with Microsoft for Windows phones.

Nevertheless, HMD Global will continue its operation in India along with its focus on launching new smartphones named after the HMD brand. The company plans to rent ring the Indian market with HMD brand innovative products.
